TikTok Concern

Hello MGSD families,

This afternoon, Thursday, September 12, 2024, Selma Burke Middle School administration was made aware of a note that said a student “saw on TikTok” that on September 13 schools would go into lockdown because school shootings would supposedly happen. Our administration, Director of School Safety, and the Mooresville Police Department immediately began investigating. This investigation did not indicate any threat to our schools, but is seemingly a TikTok hoax that is making the rounds through schools in North Carolina. While there is no credible threat, to ease any anxiety our students are facing, we will have an increased police presence tomorrow.  Keeping our students and staff safe is always our top priority, and we appreciate the Mooresville Police Department's assistance in this matter.  Thank you, and if you ever have safety concerns, please do not hesitate to use our See Something, Say Something system.
