Mooresville Graded School District remains a Top 10 District

Mooresville, NC -  The State of North Carolina released its school performance data for the 2018-2019 school year on Thursday, September 5. Mooresville Graded School District once again showed strong academic results with an overall grade level proficiency of 69 percent.  This level of proficiency places them once again in the top 10 in the state at ninth out of the 115 public school districts in North Carolina. This is the tenth year in a row MGSD has ranked in the Top 10. The state average was 59 percent, 10 points lower than MGSD’s average.

MGSD believes its schools have performed in an exemplary manner over the past several years and looks forward to improving over the next year. There were several highlights in the report indicating the excellence that occurs in its classrooms at all levels. There are 18 different categories of End-of-Course / End-of-Grade tests required by the state that are administered to students in grades three through twelve. Out of the 115 NC school districts, MGSD ranked as a top 10 district in 10 out of the 18 subject areas tested.  MGSD third grade students indicate a bright future with an overall ranking of fourth in the state and a second-place ranking in Math. MGSD sixth grade students finished eighth overall in the state. Secondary students also did well, with eighth grade students finishing ninth overall and Mooresville High School students finishing ninth in North Carolina in combined scores for tests at the high school level. These results are evidence that MGSD is helping students to excel at all levels.

After the numbers were released, Superintendent Stephen Mauney said,  “I am proud of our students and staff for their hard work and am extremely pleased with our continued success as measured by our state-mandated tests.  Continuing to be one of the highest performing districts in North Carolina for a decade is no small accomplishment. At the same time, there is so much more to our success than what is measured by test scores.  Our entire staff, which includes our support personnel as well as our teachers, dedicates time and effort to help our students achieve inside and outside the classroom. We are blessed to live and work in such a supportive and committed community.”
