Bus Stop Safety Procedures

Hello MGSD families!

As we gear up to welcome our students back this Wednesday morning, we want to ensure the safety of our students at their designated bus stop!  We kindly ask that you review the following school bus stop and crossing procedures with your children prior to their first day riding the bus. Whether boarding in the morning or exiting in the afternoon, students must stay at least 12 feet away from traffic and outside the bus's "Danger Zone."  Please stress the importance of not running around and horseplay at the stops so as not to accidentally trip and fall.  It is also crucial that children stay fully focused – removing earbuds and putting away phones, if applicable – and always look both ways for moving vehicles, as drivers do not always stop when they should. Students should carefully follow the bus driver's hand signals, waiting for an open palm to hold/wait, a thumbs-up when it is clear, and a directional point indicating when to walk. Please remember that if you ever hear the bus horn blow, it indicates immediate danger, and students must stop, look, and seek safety right away. Parents accompanying their children are expected to model these steps also to help reinforce safe habits every day.  We appreciate you helping us keep our students safe as we start another school year.  By working together for our children, this will be the best one yet!
